Bamboo

I have chopped back the big patch of bamboo as it had started lifting the patio, but were now left with a very large patch of roots. Does anyone have suggestions on how to kill off or remove them without a jcb.

Found a mattock worked well, also a saw to cut into sections, although I did use an electric reciprocating saw with a long blade which made it easier.
Aim for removing small pieces at a time then once all out expect new growth were you have missed bits and cut them off .

Bamboo generally doesn't root very deep.  I used an axe to chop through from the top to make manageable pieces, and a mattock to dig around and under each piece to get it out.
Too late for you, but leaving stems about 3 feet high would have given you something to pull on once it was loosened.
