@februarysgirl why don't you use slug pellets in the greenhouse? I can never understand why people don't........
It's not a proper greenhouse, it's this which I purchased as a temporary measure to keep some new plants I bought Jan/Feb in until ready for planting last month. It's essentially a see through tent. It would have been packed away then but some of the perennials I dug up/divided weren't as happy as anticipated (not sure what's got into them this year). I kept it up to protect them from any frosts while they perked up but as I'm now undecided where to reposition them, they're still in there.
Unless I buy any more plants during winter months that need frost protection, it's unlikely it'll get used again. Slug pellets would be also be a bad idea because the "greenhouse" is positioned in the hedgehog's stomping ground. As soon as it's removed, the hedgehog will be sniffing round there and the last thing I want is for it to come in contact with them. Ironically, so far no plants outside have been touched, including the one the little snippet came from!
Slugs like to be warm too! Use a few organic slug pellets - not the old metaldehyde kind - and just half a dozen or so. The objective is not to turn the earth blue.
Or else go out with a torch and pick them off after dark.

@februarysgirl ahh, ok......slug pellets would be lethal to the little hedgehogs. I just figured that they would be fine to use in an enclosed glass greenhouse.......
Don't believe that something unusual growing in your garden that is not an obvious weed or that you haven't planted, is, by some miracle, a fantastic new plant that will be the envy of everyone. It will turn out to be datura.
@Obelixx I'm quite happy for them to be warm as long as they're not chomping on my plants whilst they're doing it! I'd really rather not use any kind of slug pellets at all, I'm attempting to encourage their natural predators as control although I don't know how successful that'll be 😕
@Mary370 I did manage to capture our hedgehog on camera a couple of nights ago but no sign of it since 😔 Unfortunately I don't have the space for anything as lavish as a glass greenhouse!
Don't invite the dog into the new greenhouse when you've just finished glazing it, when he's never been in a greenhouse before which makes him nervous so he tries to exit out the side...not seeing there's glass in it! 😖 Luckily dog and greenhouse are fine, just a bit of a scare for both of us! Next job - online shopping for floral window decals to go around the bottom of the greenhouse 😂
Don’t trust the garden designer when they say no barrier is needed between oak sleepers and soil, or that “non-invasive” clumping Fargesia bamboo doesn’t need a root barrier
