They're usually pretty easy to grow from tubers.
Do you grow them in containers or in the ground?
Do you protect the young shoots from slugs? They can slice the shoots right off and it looks as if they haven't grown at all.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

In the past I've just planted them into the flowerbeds in early May. By the time growth appears the frosts should be over.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Containers as like you say they get eaten

I must have been lucky with slugs!
More recently I've had a greenhouse so was able to start them off in there. Now I've moved house, no GH, forgot about the slug problem and have just bought some tubers!

I just stick them in compost in late spring which I keep slightly damp ,watch out for slugs and away they go😊
    What do you do?

  • Same but not damp compost.maybe I'm too impatient!

Lay the tuber in the compost, stalk side up and then cover with compost. Any bits that fall off without a stalk won't grow at all.

I start mine in plastic pots within the next week and bring them into the conservatory where it’s mild/warm.

I’ll probably only start to water them when I start seeing signs of growth. Can be easy to overdo it with the sort of tubers you’d buy given their small size. Have lost a few in the past that got a bit soggy.
