Thoughts on growing a peach tree outdoors?

Wasting my money here or is it doable 🤔??

Love the idea of home grown peaches in the summer. Would be against a south facing wall in Glasgow. No option of putting it in a greenhouse over winter sadly.

Would love to hear if anyone’s had success 🍑

  • It can be done but you need to protect from winter rains or it will succumb to peach leaf curl. I struggled with a peach in a large pot for about 5 years, leaf curl finally finished it off.  If you like them Apricot is much easier to grow apparently.

  • It’ll be outside all year so I won’t really be able to protect it from winter rains unfortunately.
I was planning on buying Avalon Pride which is allegedly peach leaf curl resistant.
Don’t know if I’m fighting a loosing battle buying one 🤔

You can attach a wooden batten to the all above and behind the peach tree and use that to attach a temporary clear plastic sheet from November to May as advised here if you read down -  https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=232   That would also offer a little frost protection for the precious blossom.
