Paved garden and telegraph pole

I have a telegraph pole in my tiny paved garden - no Earth near the pole.  How can I disguise it, bamboo isn’t an option because it needs to drain which would ruin the paving - please please how can I disguise the pole I don’t really want to use artificial plants.

Attach trellis with zip ties so it can be removed if necessary and grow climbers in a large tub?
  • Can’t use too big a tub - but good idea re trellis around - might also get artificial bamboo mix it around the pole with something to climb up the trellis! Thank you.

It might be an idea to check with the utility that owns the pole, when it's likely to have to be renewed?  Obviously not a regular occurrence but turmoil if and when it happens.  From memory, I think it's possible to negotiate to have troublesome poles re-sited to a more convenient position, e.g. where a householder needs to create off street parking and the pole will be in the way.  A few minutes with Google, or an enquiry with your local CAB could pay dividends.
  • Thanks Nick, I’ve asked about resiting and they want quite a bit, starting with250 for someone just to look at it!!! Will try to see when they are next due to check it though.
  • I’m a bit confused at your comment that “bamboo need to drain”? Any plants in a container will need drainage otherwise they will become waterlogged and die.

Nil desperandum, Gail, I'm sure if you can demonstrate that its existence is severely damaging your quality of life, there may be pressure that can be brought to bear by local councillors/MPs.  As things stand, it looks as though they're saying it's always been there, so 'tough', but your circumstances may differ from previous owners.  All that needs to be done is for a new pole to be installed, wires connected to it, and the old one sawn down.  You wouldn't need too strong a case to win that one?  Good luck.
  • Agree with @nick615 . We had one in our garden and our electricity board came and saw that it was in the way including the stays and removed it and replaced another pole on the other side of the road. No cost to us but this was some years ago so maybe they are charging now.

When you posted about this in January you had just moved in obviously the pole didn't put you off buying.
In the links posted on the replies soneone mentions mirror film so maybe an acrylic mirror positioned at the right angle will show the raised bed when you sit in the lounge and detract from the pole or maybe you can lift a paving slab and plant into the space but a photo would help with suggestions
