@WillowBark - how small is small and which way does it face and how much shade is cast by neighbouring houses?
I'd your initial research online as it will be less boggling than a nursery and you can refine your wishlist - https://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/20-trees-for-small-gardens/ and https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=117 are good places to start. Consider height, spread, form, leaf colour and shape, flowers, fruit and bark and make sure it has at least 3 phases of interest thru the year or it will be a very dull, large feature in your plot.

Shade for most of the day during winter months, as it's quite built up with a lot of houses crammed together at odd angles to each other, summer there's sun all day until about 6pm. I think it's east facing. I'm not sure how big it is, but think little patch of lawn that you get in modern housing estates and that's kind of it.
