Gaultheria shallon berries

Steephill, I’d love a recipe for jam! I have loads of these plants covering a slope in the garden. I’ve never picked the berries, didn’t know they were edible, and have watched the birds and voles eating quite a few. Don’t like the plants much, good ground cover, but too vigorous and invasive for my liking.

50/50 fruit/sugar with a bit of lemon juice as it makes a very sweet jam. I call it my goth jam as it is virtually black. A little goes a long way.
I agree wholeheartedly about the problems the plant brings. It propagates from 6 foot runners which form a dense interlocked root network. Thankfully the roots don't go deep but it is hard work to remove errant patches.
