Thanks BenCotto, I totally agree with you that the cheap soil test results seem wildly different from one to another. I had my soil test done by the RHS lab so I trust that. The results tell me that my soil is all good other than PH, and guess what, it’s also the only thing they didn’t give any specific recommendation. It’s like they are Dodging the question In the worst case I will grow less than I planned all in containers on the patio. I guess for the aubergines raise bed and container is the way to go
Between 12 and 18 should do @TheRainyGarden . I have tall beds so I don't have to bend so far, that's why my toms and cucumbers are in garden tubs in the greenhouse too. Bad back trouble. With having a greenhouse I start my seeds in the conservatory now, but before when I had only outside I didn't start till end of March. Let us know how you get on, and come back with any other questions, everyone on here is very helpful. 😁
Thanks Pete.8 - I've come across the website before. They even have a fuller survey that can be purchased. However it doesn't say the PH for my area. What it got right though is that my area has clay soil.
Thanks @purplerallim, yes I was afraid no one would give their thoughts but I am so happy to get some really good replies. I have started my Tom seeds under grow light cause they have late varieties. I heard I'm not supposed to start this early but I will give it a try this year. Sorry to hear about your back, tall bed is a smart choice
It's called future proofing @TheRainyGarden 😆 having tall beds. Still hasn't stopped me feeling sore since the weather cleared and we could finally get out.
Our beds are the height of a gravel or scafold board,, only think I have never managed to grow is carrots, my neighbour who has really shallow beds grows them. We started out with clay soil, been much improved over nearly 10 years.Bought, them home made compost, manure in autumn
