Newbie here..soil problems and damaged hedge

Can anyone help? Our old hedge (privet I think) had something eating it last year..bite marks on leaf edges and browning.I removed all debris from under the hedge and have kept it clear. Today I found tiny yellow balls in the soil -since yesterday, and in one area tiny tiny clear or white parasite things..are these doing the damage and can I get rid of them.?. I may have posted this to the wrong place.. please tell me if I have

    Yellow balls could be empty fertilizer balls.
    Not sure about the white things although snail of slug eggs are white/clear
    It would be helpful if you could post a photo upload using the mountain icon.
    I wouldn't worry about leaf damage as you will be cutting the hedge later on.
