Do Brambles regrow from roots left in the ground?

Doing battle with a bramble patch.  Do I have to get all the roots out to stop them regrowing, or is it sufficient to completely remove the crown where all the new shoots are emerging?

My feeling is that the roots will regrow but I don't k ow for certain. I just seem to have bramble shoots suddenly popping up in odd places around this mature garden.

Even digging out the roots, mine always seem to pop back up again!

  • I know for certain ... yes they regrow ... what is more they seem to have increased vigour 😡  ... cut them hard back and leave them to sprout lush green leaves then apply SBK.

Oh yes. They seem to grow from nothing. I spent days digging up hundreds of little shoots from a previous garden and it only seemed to encourage them. Even liberal applications of SBK seemed to have little effect. In the end we just moved away!
  • Look behind you @mander ... are you sure they’re not following you?  😉

They definitely are! We never had them at our permanent house but they have started to grow in the field behind the neighbor's fence. I've got to figure out a way to get into the field and start spraying them before they take over. Nice to find a patch out in the woods but horrible in the garden.
  • Strange.  I'd say that providing I've removed the below-ground pink shooty bits, the brambles in this garden haven't re-grown.  Yet...   :#
