Prunus serrula sap

Hello, I seem to have a lot of sap coming from the bottom of my Prunus serrula. It is very black at the bottom of the tree. I wondered if I've got an infestation of something? I wonder if it is salvageable or if I have to loose the tree?

I wonder if it has been damaged. Do you mow or strim the grass around it. It might be better to clear a foot or so round the tree.
  • No I never use a strimmer around it. We mow near it but I’m also very careful.
If I clear it should I take off the damaged black bark too or just clear around the roots?
  • It’s higher up the trunk too.

Sorry I don't know anything about these trees I only suggested clearing as that would stop the mower or strimmer touching the trunk.
  • Ok thank you for your help 😊
