Cutting back verbena

Is it OK now to cut back my Verbena bonariensis to the ground. Many thanks.

    I'd leave a few inches above ground. If you can see shoots along the stem, cut above the lowest one
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    I've just cut my plants back to about 4 inches. Most were year old plants I'd grown from self seeded plants in a gravel path. Here in the NE they are hit and miss, some will sprout away others sadly have died. 
  • they are as tough as anything - I go down to 2 inches, sometimes less and they have never been a problem
