Buying plants from Amazon?

  • I am very wary of purchasing plants from Amazon. I have had branded seeds and they were fine though, I usually purchase these as an add on item to get free p&p.

I worry that i dont know the sellers, do they specialise in plants? How do they treat the plants until they are sold? The reviews, are they genuine? Lots of things to think about.

I like to go and see the plants I am buying. I have bought from Lidls, Aldi, B&M, B&Q and my local garden centre. All with very competitive prices . I do like to have a look on the nearly dead shelves. I have had some gems off there, often the plants just need a good water or a but of TLC. If you do still want to purchase off line, I would opt for one of the well known websites - plenty have been discussed on here.

I think at the supermarkets you can see the labels and which country they are from. You kind of know what you are getting. Buying from Ebay or Amazon it's very much more hit and miss. (Often miss)

I don't use Amazon, but the great plant sellers I have found on Ebay are reputable nurseries that have their own websites but also sell via Ebay (to reach more people). They will happily answer questions, give lots of info on provenance and detailed info / labels on the plants they provide. I usually have long and detailed conversations with them about a sale. Get a phone number and have a chat if that's best. Their plant sale descriptions on Ebay will go out of their way to go into the detail of the plant and their business. Most Ebayers don't sell plants or seeds beyond the UK (not sure of Ebay's own rules on this as I have ever sold with them).
