Watering potatoes in big green bags

Last year I do not think I sufficiently watered my potatoes which I grow in bags. I fear much of the water just seeped through.
As I have some spare down pipe in the garage, I was thinking of putting in into the bags, first cutting it into metre lengths, plugging the end, drilling holes through the sides and then pouring water in the top. However calculating the capacity of the tube it is less than 2 litres. That doesn’t seem much and I might be having to water two or three times a day in the hot weather.
Does this solution seem worth the effort?
