Verbena Bonariensis

Hello - I'm looking to try planting this from seed this year - will it flower this year if I do or will I be waiting until next year?  Seems a long way to grow in year one!

    They will flower this year.
    These were 1st year VB plants from seed in 2019...


    Just another day at the plant...

    Mine also grew from nothing last year and were very prolific. I love it.

    Once you have them they will throw up little plants all over the garden, I have about 30 plants I dug up from between cracks in paving slabs or found in pots. They are all now planted together and I intend to mix in some cosmos purity plants. It’s a combination I have tried before successfully. 
    The bees adore them by the way.

    Thanks @D0rdogne_Damsel, same here, I could just buy pre-grown but seeds are more rewarding. 
    @debs64 that's exactly why I'm growing them - bees and butterflies! I'm going to add some Cosmos too, both a new plant for me so will be interesting to see how it all turns out.

    Last year I discovered VB Lollipop (short form) which is fantastic.

    Hello @Fire, I have seen these online. In what way do you find them fantastic? Genuine interest, I dont mean than sarcastically! Are they good growers? I think the height of VB appeals to me the most as I've not grown anything that tall before.

    @Crazybeelady I use VB for communal street planting plots and long stems tend to flop and bend and sometimes break. The shorter version has all the bee appeal, drought tolerance, easy seeding and colour, but none of the flopping problems. It works well where I am using it at the moment.

    I'm glad VB Lollipop is fantastic @Fire as I've just planted 3 of them in the bed I've just re-planted.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Excuse my over-ethusiasm. I get excited about forms of things I didn't know existed - like creeping rosemary or autumn flowering ceanothus or euphorbia for hanging baskets.
