Rose in a bay tree?

Hi, quickie question from  a rose newbie. I'm identifying possible planting spots for climbing roses. We have a 9ft bay tree that offers privacy, but is otherwise a bit bland. Was thinking of trying a small rose climber in it, but given its dense evergreen foliage, I wondered if it would survive? Also, I guess it could be a pain to prune back the bay when required without damaging the rose? Anyone had any experience? Is it  a sure fire silly idea or is it  in with a chance?? if not a rose, would a clematis thrive in it? Tia for any thoughts.

    I agree.
I have a rose Moonlight that I've left to do its own thing.
The main plant is by the red weigela. From there it goes up a rowan tree to about 10ft. Some stems go through a smoke bush then trails along the fence.
All the white flowers in this photo are from the 1 rose plant.

..if you need access to your Bay, for clipping, then you should consider a thornless rose like 'Kathleen Harrop' or 'Lilac Bouquet'... both are height appropriate and will not overwhelm..
