Aconites (Eranthis hyemalis) are pretty early (but low, not adding much height). They're also best planted in the green (now). The super-early bulbs seem to be mainly pretty low and carpeting. I think if you want taller, you would have to delay your first cut by a few more weeks.

I seemed to have come to the same conclusion regarding the height of the bulbs hence I thought I'd put it out there in case I missed anything. .
The only problem with leaving grass to become long is that it makes it easier for the Canadian Geese off the canal to get their beaks onto it and pull it out. I'll probably just plump up the show of crocuses and snow drops next year.
