Have a read of this link from the RHS - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=117 It recommends a suitable flowering cherry for you to research.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I was just saying to my husband that I bet you wish you hadn't asked!
You aren't going to get all year round from a deciduous tree which is why i mentioned the strawberry tree as it's evergreen but I think your second choice is a good one.
You can become very uncertain in the end when we suggest different trees so stick to the sort you really wanted.
Your garden size is fine just choose a more slender tree than a spreader.  Not that you would plant one but think of the shape of a mature oak tree as opposed to a poplar tree.

Also remember as it grows up and out you can remove the lower branches if there are any so the tree canopy is well above head height.

  • Does it have to be Japanese?  Amelanchiers have beautiful blossom and gorgeous autumn colour and don’t grow too huge for small gardens.

We planted this multistemmed one in 2015. It was about 6’ tall when we planted it and cost about £90.00 .. I took the photos in 2019 ... sorry about the poor light of the first ... it was evening.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • I guess it doesn't have to be Japanese....I just want it to bring colour and be beautiful.

Cheaper from here for a same size 10l pot.

It's not the height that matters so much as the spread which can be up to 16ft, but it's still going to be a good few years before it gets that wide.
I think you will have  to put all your choices in a hat and pick one out!
  • I can't pick out of a hat+ that would drive me nuts lol

Added pressure- me and hubby want to plant to mark our 10 year anniversary.

Congratulations evidently the daffodil is the flower for 10 years. Never knew anniversaries had flowers might have been cheaper for my husband buying for our silver, ruby and a couple of years ago our gold, although i did plant a yellow rose.
Let us know what tree you go for
