I think that's what I know as Money Plant (Crassula ovata). It looks to me as if it might have been overwatered (maybe your husband did too good a job of looking after it!). It likes good drainage and it likes the compost to dry out between waterings, so check and see how wet it is - stick your finger in the compost down to the first knuckle, don't water if it's already damp). And check to make sure that pot has drainage holes, otherwise the roots could be sitting in water at the bottom of the pot, which it will hate. If you think that might be the problem, gently take it out of the pot, remove the sodden compost and repot using fresh compost in a pot with holes. It also likes plenty of daylight so would prefer to be on or close to a windowsill if possible.

  • I agree with all the above. They can also suffer in cold weather so maybe it was too close to the window during recent the  cold nighttime temperatures?

They are very easy to propagate. Simply cut off a leaf next to the stem, and lay it on top of some compost. A new plant will grow from the leaf. Don't bury it. I've grown dozens of new plants doing this.

  • No...it’s in my living room nice and cosy. Overwater can be a reason.
