Okay, something slightly different, if I asked what garden tool you could not do without, which garden tool would it be?

    Mattock. 

    I wouldn't be able to plant in my garden without it!

    Given my experience of a complete garden overhaul last year, I'd agree - mattock. I was told that I'd find it useful. How useful, I'd never have believed you!

    Well, it would be my small spade. The trowel gets the most use, but there are certain things I can do with a spade that I can't with a trowel.

    Hand fork. I spend enormous amounts of time turning over the surface to remove weeds and keep the surface friable. And a mucking-out fork for the compost, repurposed from younger, happy days.

    It was given to me in 1987 by a 72 year old gardener who was retiring

    My old Dutch hoe ... I keep the blade clean and honed and tickle the surface of the veg patch before breakfast to dislodge weedlings so that their roots fry in the sunshine. 👍 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    I'd say for us our 'Widget' . Here we grow our plants from our seeds we gather every year from our own garden even our Runner Beans, We do a lot of potting on started yesterday and their good for filing the compost around the bigger pots.

    One tool I love, and saves me a lot of work, is a Garden Claw.  It was my mother's originally and is brilliant for breaking up the surface pack which forms on the borders over winter.  We have fairly light soil so it does a brilliant job.  Much easier than using a border fork as there is no bending required.

    Love my hori - hori.  Was introduced to it at a garden where I volunteer and now would not be without it.  Also makes me feel like a fierce warrior every time it comes out of its holster 🗡 ⚔️ 🗡
