Wool compost:

Hello,
Slightly stupid question:
I'm thinking of trying some wool compost (Dalefoot) for some pots this year. Ordinarily I would just dump the excess over the garden. However we have clay soil, and one of the marketing blurb bits for the wool compost is that it is more water retentive (though who knows by how much), something our soil does not need help with.
Would spreading that over clay soil be complete lunacy or short of dropping a few tonnes on it not matter realistically?
