Hi - are you using the golf ball pittosporums as hedging or as balls - if so how big are you going to let them grow?  I'm looking for ball shaped shrubs instead of buxus - they sound ideal?  (and well done on your bargain!).

I plan to use them as individual balls to around 1m sphere (depending on my trimming abilities)
I was considering planting Photinia Little Red Robin between each ball and keeping them the same size and shape (as I've seen in a garden round the corner which looks good) but I'm not sure there's room. So I'm thinking about planting a lot of snowdrops around and maybe some bedding plants for the summer
