By the way I've never understood why most houses in the UK do not have shutters. I find them indispensable against the cold in winter (and against the heat in summer, although maybe not needed for that second reason in those "Northern climes" ).
It is indeed a clematis, Avalanche , here in April. It has a pyracantha on the other side so the narrow space outside the back door has something interesting all year
The crocuses I planted last autumn are starting to bloom. The white ones are Crocus chrysanthus 'Cream Beauty’ and the yellow ones are Crocus chrysanthus 'Fuscotinctus'.
