First Royal Bumble salvia flowering under the street trees. They seem pretty okay without full sun. It's so good to see the strong reds start again for the year.
Interestingly, I pruned this hard back in February, before the snow and harder frosts of April. But the baby plant seems fine and bloomed first. My own Bumbles I have just pruned hard back to the lowest green growth, so won't get flowers for quite a while.
It was a risk to prune so early (Feb). I have lost them to snow before now.
To keep them from getting woody, it does seem best to prune back to the lowest green growth. It constantly renews the plant. It feels quite brutal, and delaying, but worth it to give a great boost to the plant.
@Athelas Lovely lobelias; will they go in a hanging basket or in the ground?
Some photos of my garden taken this morning, just before the showers of rain and hail this afternoon. Just like a March weather. But then in March we had a May weather...

Hi, what’s the dark red plant in the north border, please? It’s striking!
@Athelas Thank you too! Yes, it's a Heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’, one of my small collection of heucheras. Very prolific, great colour(s), I recommend it.
@squirral87k4-WvGwT, I asked about them too! It’s heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’ — a striking colour indeed @Papi Jo.
