Home Bargains Box Pyramids

My local Home Bargains are selling decent sized box pyramids for £19.99 so I picked up a couple. They are probably about 3ft tall. I thinks that's a decent price especially compared to garden centres where they would be £40+

    Good bargain! But check to make sure there isn't wire or string wrapped around holding the branches into the upright shape. Generally you're paying for the time taken to train topiary and that's a shortcut that is sometimes used.

    @LeadFarmer: Looks to be in fair condition - one tip is to keep rotating it by a quarter turn on a regular basis  (say fortnightly?) to encourage even development of the new shoots just now beginning to show. Good luck with gardening this year!.

    I learnt that the hard way, I have two large box columns in pots at the from of my house, framing my front door. I forgot to turn them one year and now one of them is bare on the side that was up against the house.

    These pyramids will be getting planted out into the rear south facing garden though, so I won't be able to turn them.

    Though when I moved into this house in 2007 it was quite a bland garden, so I dug out those massive 'spikes things' and replanted it all..

    Clearly you're lucky enough to live in an area not plagued by the box caterpillar. Just a tad envious 🤣

    I do seem to, but for how long???
    My privet hedge does however suffer from what I think is honey fungus.

    Very nice garden @LeadFarmer.  What is the plant in the aerial shot bottom right, light purple/blue colour?

    Clematis Piilu. It flowers really well every year. Doesn't get too tall and always looks good.

    Thanks, I just googled it, maybe I'll look into getting one if it's not too voracious a grower!
