New turf ideal preparation
Hi, we are due to have a new lawn next month as per agreement with our house builder. Ours was full of builders waste and very uneven so they eventually agreed to do it again.
I have started to scrape off some of the old turf as I wanted to use the topsoil underneath the high areas to build up levels against a retaining wall and put in some edging for borders before they start.
I only have a small amount to lift as the landscapers are bringing a mini digger, so just using a spade/shovel to do this. I noticed that in the topsoil a few of the deeper roots from the grass where still visible but the majority were with the sod.
This topsoil will eventually be turfed but I am concerned the old roots may affect the new turf? Will a few old roots hurt the new turf or am I worrying over nothing?
