Good idea. The garage will have to be painted in any case (to match the house render) so probably best to leave several metres access.

can i just give a shout out for euonymus silver queen? everyone tends to think of it as a shrub only but it can easily be grown up a fence or a wall with a little support. can be pruned to keep to the size you want. its almost evergreen, has lovely variegated leaves which have a slight pink tinge in winter, has loads of soft yellow flowers in summer and is an absolute bee magnet! its really worth considering at least one for that fence but would be lovely to have a few spaced out, perhaps with other climbers inbetween.
