Please help

Last spring I took cuttings from a Montana Reubens clematis. I followed Montys advice for taking cuttings. We don’t have a greenhouse. I put my cuttings on a windowsill and they thrived. I potted them on and kept them inside. This winter the leaves have started wilting. I am gutted. It looks like it’s going to die. I water sparingly. I’ve moved my pots upstairs as it’s not as warm as downstairs. Will they recover?

Did you check and see if there are any roots?
I guess so if you have potted them on.

Montanas usually lose their leaves in the winter, they are not evergreen.
So if you have healthy roots in the pots they should be okay.

And well done you for getting them to root, I am terrible at clematis.
  • Hello,

Just to second what has been said already, Montanas go from being lush and green to a bundle of dried branches every winter. You'll know if they are ok in a few months time when they spring back to life. If they have roots I'm sure they will.
