Can Ivy be safely added to the compost heap? Thanks.

I would.
When you come to empty it and the ivy is still alive, just chuck it back into the bin for more composting.
If you can cut it up into small bits, it'll help, or run a petrol lawn mover over it.

I shred and compost masses of the stuff with no issues.

Shred it ... otherwise just when you think it’s dead ... 😲

I never do, we've got far too much of the stuff growing everywhere for me to want to risk it. Goes straight into the Council Green Bin.
