Reshaping Eucalyptus into a standard?

Hi, does anyone have any experience of this? I have two eucalyptus trees that I bought a couple of years ago which were really small.  I’ve reported them twice due to their fast growth and they are about 6ft high now.  I’d like to keep them but don’t want huge trees (I admit I hadn’t researched their final height before buying them) and wondered if I could turn them into standard trees.  I could plant them in the ground at the bottom of my garden as I know they’d be happier in the ground but I’m not certain of how to reshape them. Any experience of this? Thanks

You can coppice them annually and keep them as shrubs. I do this each year in early Spring and it works fine. It also has the benefit of keeping the attractive juvenile foliage.

Eucalyptus can be pruned hard and then produces the lovely young leaves. Not sure the best time to do this.

Thanks for your replies @Loraine3 and @punkdoc .  So does it only ever grow to about 5ft in height with annual coppicing?

I think it reaches about 3ft high if trimmed each year.
  • Thanks @Loraine3
Will have to have a think of the best place to put them.  I suppose I could try turning one of them into a standard and see what happens. If that’s a disaster I can always coppice it. Thank you again 🥀
