What a pretty fountain it is too Chive. Thats interesting about the family connections to Ray Reardon Yvie. I think he enjoyed being nicknamed Dracula and he combed his hair into a distinctive widow's peak on his forehead.

Afternoon all - hasn't it been a lovely day? The birds have been so noisy! Did a bit more outside but it always takes a few weeks for me to get things in order for spring - so much tree and shrub pruning, shredding, tidying, mulching, compost bin turning. This garden is about a third of an acre with some big borders and sometimes I long for the little garden we had in York - I could 'do' the whole thing in a day easily.

I was a snooker fan in the mid 80's (same era as LB). So much so that 3 friends and I had regular trips to go and watch the big tournaments. Got to see all the big names and did the world championships in Sheffielde 4 or 5 times, plus various other venues around the country. To be honest it was always just a good excuse for a few nights away with the girls. We did rather stand out being a group of 4 young girls in a mainly male audience and we got to know some of the regular referees and other officials. Got some photos somewhere of us posing with referee Len Ganley and the world championship trophy....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
  • Lovely hearing you snooker comments. I have followed it since I was a teenager. I dont know why, it was on the TV and it just appealed to me. I used to go and watch it but when  I had my son, I stopped going. Mr PurpleRose has never been (although he is a snooker fan) so I have booked us tickets for the Barbican in York for December. I hope he likes it live. The afternoon session was really good and I am eager for tonight's session to start (which is very soon).

Chive, I like your fountain. A lovely feature for the garden.

T'Bird, somewhere I have pictures of me with some of the names I mentioned in my list when they came to play a match in Malta. I'll have to dig them out. They have probably all faded with age. Mum and Dad lived there for a few years after Dad retired from the RAF so I was able to spend my summer holidays there. Dad was a very keen player and he and a few of his friends used to play two or three times a week.

PR, you have such a lovely time to look forward to. I've been discussing our 2022 Lake District holiday with my niece in law and it is all giving us a real buzz. I've emailed all the usual suspects and had replies from two families already.

  • Chive I’ve had just a sniffly nose and slept a little longer but that’s all, thank you.    Your fountain looks fabulous, definitely a keeper.  Hazel you can relax now after the gardening.  I hope you all sleep well.  Goodnight everyone.
