In Granddad's canvas roll of historic bits for his brace (and bits) is a double ended screwdriver with two sizes.  Your mention of a 'Brace & Bit' reminded me of it, so that could be another option if the exact bit you want proves elusive but, again, you might need an 'oldie' shop to find one.

herbaceous  PS.  I respect your reluctance to shop on line but that's not what I meant.  Those two chains publish their special offers on line, so that you can visit one of their stores and shop in the normal way.

@herbaceous my dad had a Yankee screwdriver I remember well his curses when he slipped with it and stabbed his fingers 😭. It's kept in the garage now unused since we lost him and there was a collection of the driver bits, I'll ask ask Mother Wilderbeast if she would be willing to let me have a couple. Better they be used than just left idle

Have you looked to see if anywhere sells adapters to convert these to running modern bits?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@nick615 I understood what you were suggesting but I am forbidden to go to shops by my daughters and have been under 'house arrest' for almost a year.  They would willingly collect stuff for me but as they are both working and looking after families I have tried to get along with on-line shopping. There is also my weird insistence on trying before I buy, especially tools.

I invested in a mattock a couple of years ago (suggested by someone on this forum and a wonderful thing) they trailed round several shops with me while I tried many out before I found one that was satisfactory. They took me as they have cars and said it would not be a good idea for me to bring a mattock home on the bus!

@Wilderbeast that is so incredibly generous of you but I would quite understand if Mrs W was loathe to part with them.  I still have stuff that belonged to my father and my husband that would be difficult to say goodbye to.

I joke that I only use 'cordless' tools and I would be lost without them. Me and power tools are not good friends  :D Let me know how she feels?

@wild edges I have seen lots of 'modern' bits but to be honest I wouldn't feel confident that I was getting the right items.  Reached a point in my life where I like what I know and try to keep it simple to avoid my own confusion.

Not averse to progress just running to keep up, may go down that route if all else fails. Confronted with these issues I generally find someone more knowledgeable and learn from them, not an option just now though - wish it was.
