When to plant bulbs

Hi, so I recently bought some anemone the admiral and anemone st Bright ( I've never grown them  before) but there didn't come with any information on when to plant them looking online, the information is very varied so I'm a little confused. Would anyone be able to advise please?

    Hello Sophie,
I think they should normally be planted in Autumn to flower in the Spring, but it's been quite a few years since l've grown them. It may be better to get them in the ground ASAP, but bearing in mind the forecast for cold weather over the next few days perhaps put them in pots for the time being.
Sorry l can't be of more help, hopefully someone else can give you some advice  :)
  • These are both coronaria varieties. Usually you would plant them in autumn and let them grow roots over winter. Some that I put in last autumn have been leafing up for a few weeks at this stage. However, I think it is still worth planting them now, preferably soaking them in lukewarm water for some hours beforehand and using free-draining compost, as they dislike lots of damp around the corms. You may have to give them regular water through the spring and they will flower later than it says on the pack. I have seen them persist from year to year at the sunny base of a hedge, but otherwise you need a gravel garden or similar to get them to hang around.
  • Amazing thank you very much!!
  • Plant them on their sides - it's really difficult to work out which is the top of the corm and this gets round the problem.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thank you for the tip!! I will definitely be doing that!
