Pruning Roses

Could some one help me re pruning the roses that I have. They have not been done in the last few years, I removed some of the dead wood in the summer. I was intending to prune leaving only a couple of feet of bush, but if I do then that cuts down all of the green growth and shoots. Also is it too early or should I leave it to later in Feb?

    You can prune back now if your area rarely gets hard frost. Otherwise, leaving until mid February to March is usually the best time. If you haven't pruned it much over the last few years, it can do with some rejuvenation. Aim to have only around 1 ft to 2ft left. Usually, that is enough to promote new growth just below that.
