Unused new bulbs

Hello Garden Guru’s.  In 2020 I ordered and received about a 100 new spring bulbs. Due to illness they have remained in their packaging but obviously should have been planted In October and November etc.  I live in South Wales. My question is what do I do with these bulbs? Can I still use / plant them and if so when? Thank you.

I, personally, would plant them.  I don't think they would last if not planted, so nothing to lose.

  • Most of us have overlooked planting at the correct time at some point. I would get them in the ground (or pots) now and see what comes up. It's unlikely the whole display will be lost, but it will be later than you would normally expect.

Plant them now. They won’t keep until next year, so plant them now and if they grow and flower that’s a bonus. 🌹

  • Perhaps planting in pots would benefit you? If you buy large pots you could put them in in layers using the 'lasagne' approach. Either way I am sure the bulbs will be fine. Some may take perhaps 10-12 weeks to come up as they produce roots first so be patient

  • It's a good idea to plant on bulbs and hang them in your backyard.
  • Thank you everyone for replying. I made a start on planting them this afternoon and am so pleased that there is chance no matter how slight that they will survive. Some of them had shoots growing inside the brown paper bags they were still sealed in when shipped over from Holland.
