Climber ID

LucidLucid Posts: 387
Hi everyone, I spotted a nice looking climbing plant when I was out on a walk with my dog earlier. It was climbing up a pergola and is flowering. I wondered if it was a type of Ceanothus but it seems they flower in Summer.

If anyone knows that'd be great as if it's good for the pollinators I'd like to add it to my plant list for when we come to do the garden. Thanks for any help.

That does look like a Ceanothus doesn't it. Perhaps it's got confused.

..it's Ceanothus 'Gloire de Versailles'... an exceptional plant that flowers from June to as late as you like, weather permitting...

..if you prefer a darker colour look for Ceanothus delilianus 'Henri Defosse', it's a darker shade of blue.. otherwise very similar..

Thanks for the fast replies @Lizzie27, @D0rdogne_Damsel and @Marlorena. It sounds really interesting and I will definitely add it to the list - apparently butterflies like it too. Thanks for the tip on the darker colour too Marlorena. I think I prefer the lighter look but will make a note of both.

Ceanothus Gloire de Versailles blooms with pale blue flowers

Ceanothus pallidus Marie Simon is another similar one.
I love the delicate pink, deciduous ones.
