Hole in Rhododendron

A large piece broke off a mature Rhododendron during a storm last year. Will it eventually grow to fill the gap and return to looking even or will we have to find something to plant in front of it to disguise?

I have a big mature rhodo.
Every few years I really hack parts of it back hard and in a few weeks new shoots appear and soon fill the space.
I usually do it just after flowering, but have done it at other random times of year with no ill effects.
If you tidy up the broken bit so there are no ragged edges where disease could get in I think it'll be ok

Yes - just tidy it as @Pete.8 says. They're fairly indestructible.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
