Monstera Deliciosa possible infection? Cold burn?

Hi all
I got this plant free and the lady left it outside when it was cold and windy. Part of a leaf is dead and i'm going to cut it but thought id ask first. Does anyone know why this has happened? It came like this. Is it a cold burn? I want to keep the leaf and cut away the dead part? Its just cosmetic but if i leave it will it affect the rest of the leaf? It doesnt seem to be spreading.

Ive also got these white spots that wont rub off on the leaves. Is this something to be concerned about? What is it?

Lives in a east facing window. Lots of defused light. I keep it next to the window. Ive had it for a month now and seems to be doing fine.

Well, they are indoor plants in this country and it has been freezing outside, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it had been damaged by cold.
That said, mine is tough as old boots and I occasionally cut off dying leaves, but it will always spring back.

Are you in a hard water area? If you are, the white spots could be residue from water splashes. Harmless but can be avoided by watering directly onto the compost and using filtered water for misting.
I would leave the leaves on until they're more brown than green. The green will still be photosynthesising and feeding the plant. You can snip out the brown areas if you like (but don't snip into the green, or the cut edges will turn brown).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • I have soft/medium water and i use filtered water only on all my plants but not sure on the previous owner. Thank you both for the replies
