Fresh woodchips on Paths between beds

Are fresh woodchips a heaven for slugs in our damp climate?

I am going to put down woodchips on the paths between veg beds (not raised or with any type of boarder) and can get fresh woodchips but am worried that it is good slug habitats. Do you guys think more composted woodchips would be any better?

I use loads of the stuff (my local tree surgeon delivers with his tipper transit) and haven't found any issues with slugs at all.

No slugs in ours.  They will rot down to form soil, so if left too long you will get weeds growing.  We replace ours chips every other year

I use wood chips from a local furniture maker and it works brilliantly for me. Loads of worms in at, as rots down to become soil. No weeds. I have loads of slugs anyway, so it's hard to tell if the wood chip is contributing.. I replace chips once a year, but the waste stuff I have for the craftsman is finer grade and breaks down quicker. (But it's free!)
