Waterlogged garden

Hi.  My garden is waterlogging in the corner as shown.  This is the only area affected.  The slabs leading into this area slope downwards towards it slightly.  The builder is blaming lack of sunlight, which I appreciate there is not much they can do about. But if its due to something else or the uneven slabs then I'm sure they can do something. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

  • Lack of sunlight? That wouldn't explain flooding. Water could not evaporate off fast enough to stop this phenomenon, particularly in wintertime. Seems to me they are just stalling, and it's very close to your wall and fence, which will lead to significant damage in the long term. If you're still under guarantee, I'd get onto them ASAP to fix this. My guess is it could be poor subsoil drainage, caused by their usual practices of compacting the soil and burying builder's waste. They'll probably need to dig up the paved area to sort it, but it can't stay as is.
  • Palnt a border of water-loving plants. Yellow iris, Siberian Iris, Marshmallows, any Plant that has "Marsh" in the name....any type of Willow, Bullrushes !!!
Everyone likes butterflies. Nobody likes caterpillars.
  • The main question is what is causing more water to gather than other areas and what needs to be done. E.g if there's a broken drain this will cause issues and needs fixing.
If it's just drainage you could either put in a raised bed or improve drainage or as above plant suitable marginals. The fence needs to be out of the water though for obvious reasons.
