Getting rid of plum tree suckers

We have a few wild plus in our garden, but they cast shade over the area we are going to use for veg beds. We’re therefore cutting them down. There are already many suckers that I presume were formed after previous pruning attempts. I’ve done my best to dig down and cut some out from the root level. If we cut down the main trunks, will the suckers eventually die off anyway?

  • You may need to use a stump killer as cutting the main trunks down will likely trigger new suckers and vigorous growth in the existing ones.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
