Can I transplant sweet pea seedlings in January?

Good evening.
I planted sweet pea seeds in late October and left them in an unheated greenhouse. They were growing well and so I nipped out the centre leaves. Now I have bushy little plants with roots coming out at the bottom of the root trainers. I will buy deeper root trainers next year, but for now I am thinking the plants need to go into larger pots or maybe loo roll tubes. Any advice, please. Also, can anyone clarify: When should I plant out? Must I wait until after the last frost before planting out?
Thank you.

You may indeed pot them up. They are tough little plants but it is best to wait to plant out until the worst of the weather is over.
  • Thank you, 💐.

I have to say that I potted mine up early on and, after advice from one of the gardeners here, I left them under a table in the patio just to protect them from the worst rain. They are doing very well so far.
Am planning on sowing some again this weekend to have two batches in case the first one meets an untimely end with the frosts, but I believe they are tough little plants
  • I may transfer half to deeper pots and see how they go. Thank you, Sophie. Good luck with yours, too! 🪴
  • Has anyone planted them in old clematis pots? They’re usually much deeper and can let the sweet peas really get their roots down.
  • I have a couple of long pots I was using for lilies so ... thanks for that, Rob.
