I usually leave mine until signs of new growth ... old foliage, however dishevelled, helps protect the crown of the plant and new buds against late frosts. I know they’re hardy but new growth can be tender, even on hardy plants ... if that makes sense 😊

I leave mine too, every time I go to cut them I find a toad sleeping underneath. They love the shelter, it will pick up really well if you cut it right back in the Spring.
