Hoping to have quite a few newbies on the go. Definitely raspberries (Polka) - 5 canes went in about 6 weeks ago. Although the unexplained delayed delivery worries me slightly. Only 2 of the 5 are showing any sign of life so far :(

  • I am growing cuccamelons for the for the first time
  • I'm planning on going a bit crazy this year as am going to treble the width of my border, which means lots of space for new things!  Verbena Bonariensis, Angelica Gigas, Fogloves, Agastache, Cirsium Heterophyllum.  Never grown any of them before so I expect I will have mixed results!

Have up on the blue poppy, if the slugs didn't get them then they just didn't flower. Not cold enough for them here

I love blue poppies. they don't like my soil much.  I put plants in, if I'm lucky they flower, then they disappear.   Harlow Carr always has a good show.
  • The blue poppies are only really happy if you have plenty of rain and acid soil, and can give them a shady spot.  And even then they can be iffy... but gorgeous if they like you... these are in a garden (not mine!) in West Yorks:

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

You see, I know I have the wrong soil. Azaleas die on me as well. People keep buying me plants that are ericaceous on the basis of "You haven't got one of these"  Well no, that's because they don't like my soil.  I keep persevering with the blue poppies though, because of that glorious blue colour.  I really should stick to Salvia patens instead.

I found some seed of Isoplexis Bella sold by a nursery in Holland and ordered 2 packets of 10 seeds.  (Other suppliers here had all sold out).  I sowed one of the packs in autumn and 2 germinated so I potted those up and put on my s. facing windowsill and am guarding them like a mother hen.  I think they are biennial so not sure I'll get flowers this year.  The other pack I shall sow indoors later this month or early next and look forward to flowers next year for sure.  Fingers crossed.

@fidgetbones I am wondering if you sowed the agretti. I sowed some ten days ago and no show. (Apologies if this comes up again in this thread. I did skim read.) Possibly my seed is too old. I gather it needs to be fresh and this is last year's.
I grew samphire last year but not from seeds.  It was ok but I am afraid I didn't look after it as well as I should have.
