Companion sowing and planting.

I have been reading and doing some research on companion planting, I wonder if anybody has any thoughts on this method been organic and don't use any sprays other than garlic spray to deter black spot on roses. The book I am reading is A-Z of companion planting by Pamela Allardice, which I have found very interesting and helpful.

Companion planting has been going on for centuries as a way to mask smells of plants to deter predators, as sacrificial plants to attract predators and also to increase plant health and fertility.
