high but not wide planter

I inherited a nice tallish planter which i would love to use. Unfortunately the diameter is only 30 cm. So probably something with longer roots - I am worried it’s not draining well... it’s 50 cm high. Didn’t work for bulbs last year - that’s why i am wondering if drainage was a problem.
Any ideas? Thanks

    Are there holes in the bottom. It it on something to raise it off the ground a bit.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    B3 yes one - i may going to drill one more in....
