Help with Tomatillo turning yellow

Hello all, hoping I can get some help. We have a tomatillo plant in a container. It has been doing really well, but the last few days the leaves have started to turn yellow.
It gets regular watering and I have used the same tomato food every 6 months. Initial research suggested over watering but the pot is dry by mid afternoon so not certain it's that. The other suggestions might be a Nitrogen overdose, but as explained it only gets fed every 6 months and the last feed was in November.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance.

How long have you had it
and what sort of compost is it planted in?
I know they’re not hungry plants but 6 months in the same compost with only one dose of tomato feed doesn’t sound like much to me.
And anyway, I’m 99.999% certain they’re not evergreen ... at least the ones I grew here in the UK weren’t.
    Whereabouts are you?

I thought lack of strong light might be the problem
  • Thanks for the responses. So I am in HK and the plant is out on the balcony south facing so it gets plenty of strong light for a good 8 hours a day if not more in the summer.
I will try feeding it and see if it recovers. We have some fruit developing but I don't want the thing dying before we can harvest. Thanks

I think it needs more soil and heat and light.   I tried growing them here in texas and the hotter it got in the summer the better they grew.   I think they may need more heat and light than tomatoes but I am no expert.  I have only one season under my belt.
  • Thanks so much for all the input, a few good ideas that we have already started to try.
We have had a bit of a cold snap (sub 15C) here in Hong Kong so that's why we have brought both the tomatoes and the tomatillo inside, but this is just overnight as soon as the temp goes up during the day they are back out on the balcony soaking up the sun.
I have also fed the and resumed a more normal watering schedule after we suspected overwatering might be a cause.
I will be making a trip to our garden market this week to get some larger containers, more compost and some longer canes to support it all!

Many thanks all, I will keep you updated and fingers crossed as we do have crop growing on the plant so would be a shame to not get to eat that fruit!
