Help appreciated with plant identification

Happy New Year.
I've attached a pic of two plants in bloom last spring.  I think the one on the left is rhodedendron and the right is azalea (the more orange one) but I'd like to be sure so I can figure out how to look after them both.  I'm fairly sure on the left hand one.
I've attached more pics taken today of the right hand plant which I think is azalea.  Its orangey in colour in bloom and not as yellow as the left hand one, has no leaves just now and I've done a pic of the buds.  The left hand one I think is the rhodedendron has buds but has never lost leaves all through winter.
Any ideas would be great.
thanks in anticipation of help with this

All Azealas are Rhodedendrons, if that makes sense.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Technically all Azaleas are classified as Rhododendrons.
But most people call them by the common name Azalea.
Pic 2 ....To left is an evergreen Rhododendron.
Pic 2.....To right is a deciduous Rhododendron ...common name Azalea.

    Thanks for explaining.
how on earth can I find out the exact variety of each or is that just an impossible task?

    Pretty much an impossible task.
Left Rhodo may be Rhodo Goldsworth Orange...or possible another very similar one!
So many factors come into the calculation...
eg.Time of flowering, size/shape of flowers/scent/leaf size shape...inudentum on back of the leaves etc etc.

As for how to look after them...treat them both the same...mulch deeply with composted leaves or bark.
Make sure that you water them well especially when weather is hot or dry...not just a sprinkle...a jolly good soak..2 gals regularly...over root ball.
    Enjoy!

  • There's the RHS Rhododendron, Magnolia and Camellia Group https://www.rhodogroup-rhs.org/   Maybe mail them a photo - close up of the flowers would be helpful - and ask if they can ID it for you?

Failing that, look at online suppliers such as Millais Nurseries and Ashwood Nurseries and see if you can ID it that way.
