I grow verbascums in full sun but not this particular one so I looked it up on the RHS website.  Looks like it too needs full sun - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/75956/Verbascum-blattaria-f-albiflorum/Details

I grow it here if it is the same one I think it is. Biennial dark green leaves in a rosette white flower with lovely purple centre.
It grows quite happily in shade here.
Sorry to be contrary Obelixx. :)

They even self seed here in partial shade, on improved clay.
    Maybe they are the exception.
We have one still almost standing in shade under conifers with a few flowers left :D
It is one of my all time favourite plants.
And if you remember to pinch them a little bit early on with the first true stem, you get a bunch of stems and lovely display.

Edit: Oops I didn't think to click Obelixx link , it is the one.

That's good to know.   I shall keep an eye out for seeds then.  I love verbascums except for the big fat yellow mullein version.

Sorry @sarahlucy. Just managed to add the photo and write words.
Even my photo Faststone  editing thingy has changed since last use.
So you can compare and see if it is the same flower. The rosette of leaves at the bottom are the crinkley dark shiney green.
    Not the more furry kind.

Obelixx I once grew the big fuzzy furry leaved one on the edge of our shady garden where it got sun. Bombycifferum?...
I kind of liked it. But not worth the hassle in a shade garden.

  • That's so encouraging, thank you!
  • Yes, Rubytoo - that's the one!  Thank you. I'll try in part shade and see how it goes.  Many thanks.
