Do store-bought seeds need stratifying?

Beginner to gardening and this forum here. Particularly im talking about lavender and rosemary that will be grown and kept indoors on a windowsill. Thanks for any help!

    Not in my experience.  Stratifying is used to break dormancy in more difficult seeds.

    Beware if impatience - sowing too early will lead to you seedlings stretching for light and becoming weak - etiolated.   Better to wait till light levels are better in March, unless you have a light box.

    It should say on the packet if they do.

    I’ve never grown Rosemary from seed but do grow lavender as they get woody and can be a bit tatty after a couple years, I just sow as any other seeds mid March, never had a problem with germination. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Rosemary is easy from seed, but I would never try and sow it at this time of year.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
